This DVD breathes life into the Splash Secondary Curriculum,
Life in Our Watershed: Investigating Streams and Water
Quality, by showing students how the organisms found in a
typical local stream make a living. It presents a visual
exploration of one of the many small foothill streams that fan
out across into the Sacramento region.

For 2 billion years, bacteria were the only creatures on Earth.
Long before the dinosaurs, a special type of bacteria slowly
increased the level of oxygen in the Earth’s air to 20 percent.
Without this oxygen other plants and animals could not have
evolved, including us.
The Splash Secondary Curriculum is exciting and fun
for the environmentally conscious students. I had a
blast with my students studying the macroinvertebrates,
watching the DVD, and hunting throught the BMI Guide
to take notes on what we had found and how it related to
water quality. I look forward to more exciting,
hands-on, inquiry investigation next year with my Biology
students. – Jennifer McAllister, Biology teacher, River
