Sacramento Valley Chapter of the California Native Plant Society

The local chapter of the California Native Plant Society (CNPS) generously supports the educational and outreach activities of Splash, giving a $2500 donation in 2010/11.

These funds went to purchase hand lenses for Splash to loan to students and visitors while they tour the Mather Field vernal pools. Cooler yet, part of the CNPS donation will allow us to begin retiring our aging Splash microscopes. The old ones will be refurbished and loaned out for use at educational events such as the CNPS Wildflower Weekend in April.

Since the mid-1990s, CNPS volunteers have been leading public tours of the Mather Field vernal pools every April. Over the years they have introduced thousands of people to this rare and vanishing habitat. A few diehard CNPS members continue to show up each spring to help lead tours, along with other volunteers in the newly expanded Splash Volunteer Corps. One of the original CNPS docents showed up for the new guide training last year with his grandson, kicking off the next generation of Mather Field docents!Sacramento Valley Chapter of the California Native Plant Society
