Under the direction of the Splash in the Class Program Coordinator, the Classroom Presenter will lead interactive, 70-minute stormwater pollution prevention presentations for Grade 3-6 classrooms throughout Sacramento County.

Position Title: Classroom Presenter

Location(s): Splash Center at Mather, CA & presentations at schools throughout Sac County

Wage: $15/hour + mileage reimbursement
Time Commitment: 2 – 4 days/week
Schedule: Mon – Fri, 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM

Job Duties:

  • Communicate regularly with Program Coordinator regarding availability and scheduling of presentations
  • Prepare hands-on demonstration materials and pick up student activity packets
  • Lead classroom presentations for 3rd – 6th grade students (ages 8 – 12) with a hands-on demonstration of stormwater pollution impacts and solutions
  • Maintain positive learning environment & calmly manage behavioral issues
  • New Classroom Presenters will spend initial school visits learning material and observing experienced staff engaging students in presentation
  • Conduct brief pre- and post-assessment of student knowledge using the iClicker Audience Response System

Essential Qualifications:

  • Enjoy teaching and spending time with children
  • Able to commit to working through end of academic year (mid-February to mid-June)
  • Team player with a demonstrated history of working well with others
  • Engaging and friendly
  • Sense of humor
  • Reliable transportation and auto insurance meeting the minimum State of California requirements
  • Satisfactory completion of a background check
  • Able to lift 25 lbs. and transport materials from vehicle to classrooms using handtruck

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with children age 8-12
  • Interest in environmental science
  • Knowledge of aquatic ecosystems
  • Knowledge of stormwater pollution
