Overview: Building Bridges: Nature, Art & Science
At Splash we believe in experiential learning in nature. Artwork is a natural avenue for kids to connect with the living world around them. The same observation skills we use as scientists are being exercised when we draw and paint in nature. Together the practice of art and science encourage the basis of scientific inquiry: To notice, to wonder, and to compare.
The practice of art invites children to look more closely, to notice the grand as well as the obscure. Science helps them practice the art of wondering, asking the questions that invite further, deeper exploration. When we integrate the world of art and science, we have tools to better know the world itself. This is why Splash is investing in programs that bring art and science together. We invite local artists, scientists and educators to build these bridges with us.
