New Teacher Application
Field Trip Availability
The full Splash Program includes
a 4-hour teacher training, a loaned set of curriculum materials and
a field trip to the Mather Field vernal pool grasslands. While
training and materials can be provided to an unlimited number of
classes, the sensitivity of the vernal pool habitat requires that
Splash limit the number of field trips to Mather Field to 60 classes
per year. Given that most teachers return each year, a limited
number of field trips slots open up to new teachers, primarily when
the previous year's teachers:
- move to other grades or counties
- lose their slot due to inadequate preparation of their class for a
field trip.
Until September 1st, the deadline for field
trip reservations for all returning teachers, we cannot be sure how
many field trip dates will be available for new teachers the coming
year. When you complete an application for the Splash Program, you
are eligible to receive the training and materials, and your name
will be placed on a waiting list for a field trip. If we cannot
accommodate you this year, you will receive priority for a field
trip next year. You might also consider taking advantage of weekend
guided fieldtrips provided to the public by the Sacramento Valley
Chapter of the California Native Plant Society. Schedules and
reservation information is accessible through their website at www.sacvalleycnps.org
or reservations hotline at 916-737-WILD.
