Despite their desire to learn and grow with Splash, many students encounter obstacles that keep them from returning to the Splash Education Center for Splash Club and Nature in the Neighborhood events. In an effort to provide access to outdoor investigation for these students, in 2008-09, Splash piloted a version of Splash Club that can take place after school on the school site. We call it Splash Club After School.

A teacher at each of the pilot schools graciously volunteered her/his time to host Splash Club, using curricula and materials assembled by Splash for this purpose. For an idea of the kind of activities that the Splash Club After School members enjoyed, check out these sample lessons.

Splash Club After School uses the tools of science to explore habitat or remnant open space at or near school sites. Because some school sites have little to offer by way of natural resources, Splash advocates for preserving and restoring habitat close to schools for the benefit of every developing child and young scientist.

If you are a parent or teacher interested in hosting a Splash Club at your school, please contact us. Expansion of this pilot program to more schools depends on the generosity of our donors. If you wish to help sponsor a Splash Club After School site, please contact us.

Stay close to small things

If you will stay close to nature, to its simplicity, to the small things hardly noticeable, those things can unexpectedly become great and immeasurable.

- Rainer Maria Rilka

Easy to implement

“The lessons were good. They were very thoughtful and easy-to-implement.” - Splash Club After School Leader, Prairie Elementary, Elk Grove USD
