Information for Prospective Splash Teachers

Splash would love the opportunity to teach your students hands-on science and develop their respect for the natural world around them.  Check out the links below for more information about our vernal pools program for 4th and 5th grade classes.

Program Eligibility

To be eligible to participate in the Splash elementary program you must teach 4th or 5th grade at a school in Sacramento County or the City of West Sacramento.

Sign Up for the Elementary Program

Splash invites all 4th and 5th grade teachers in Sacramento County and the City of West Sacramento to submit an application for a place in the Splash Elementary Program. The program includes a mandatory four-hour teacher training, a loaned set of curriculum materials, and a field trip to the vernal pools at Mather Field.

What Teachers Receive

Once you are accepted into the program, you will receive a full set of curriculum materials, which includes all of the items listed below.  You will be required to sign a Materials Loan Agreement and a Teacher Expectations Agreement, but you may keep the materials at no cost for as long as you continue to teach the curriculum.

Expectations of Teachers

Splash teachers, once accepted into the program, are obligated to:

  • Attend a four-hour teacher training session, held in early-December,
  • Devote a minimum of 10 hours of class time to the Splash curriculum and complete Lessons 1-8 prior to a February or March field trip;

Standards Alignment

The PDF document above provides detailed information about how the Splash elementary curriculum aligns to the 4th and 5th grade standards established by the California State Board of Education.

Program Fees

Due to the diversity of socio-economic populations served by the program, we use a sliding scale to determine the fee for each class. The fee per student ranges between $2.00 and $10.00 and is based on the percentage of students at your school receiving free/reduced-price meals. If you don't know this statistic off the top of your head, you can look it up on the Education Data Partnership website.
