Join landscape designer Bernadette Balics for this special introduction to gardening with California native plants. Fall is the perfect time to plant, and here is your chance to get ready!

This workshop includes two evening classes during which you'll learn about native plants and their proper care. You'll have an opportunity to get professional feedback on your own planting plans, ask lots of questions, see photos of California native plant gardens, exchange experiences, and peruse useful books.

The class also includes a field trip to the California Native Plant Society (CNPS) demonstration Iris garden at the Old City Cemetery. We'll see actual living plants, help out with fall gardening chores, and learn more about plant maintenance. We'll also get a chance to test our site evaluation skills by observing the growing conditions of assorted plants.

After taking this class, you'll be ready to plant your own native plant garden! Get started by meeting your instructor and classmates at the CNPS Fall Plant Sale at the Shepard Garden and Arts Center in McKinley Park on September 22nd.

Bernadette Balics, owner of Ecological Landscape Design, was born and raised by two gardeners in nearby Davis. Since 2001, she has been helping homeowners in the Sacramento area create beautiful landscapes using California native, low California Lilac water, edible and otherwise useful plants. She uses the principles of ecology, environmental awareness and joy in her work. Bernadette also gives workshops and talks on ecolandscaping, seed saving, landscaping with California natives at area events and seminars.

Bring a pencil, a rough map of your gardening area, and lots of questions to the evening classes. Dress in your gardening gear and bring your gardening tools for the Sunday outing to the CNPS demonstration garden.

Fees  for this special workshop is $90.00 per person. This class is designed for adult participants 16 years of age and older.
