Nature in the Neighborhood

The Splash program’s Nature in the Neighborhood series provides fun and educational nature programs to audiences of all ages and interests. Most of these programs and activities are designed for families, though some specialty workshops may be geared towards adults.

Many of the programs are conducted by Splash staff, consisting of professional scientists, educators, and naturalists. We also invite special guest presenters to share their expertise about wild things. For information about exciting Nature in the Neighborhood events, please check out our upcoming programs.

All programs begin at Splash Education Center. Part of each program is conducted inside and most will involve a walk (usually no more than a mile) to investigate the various habitats and wildlife at Mather Field. Please come prepared for wind and dress appropriately for the weather.  Long pants and closed-toe, walking shoes are a must. 

Reservations for Nature in the Neighborhood are strongly recommended and may be made by filling out the online reservation form or by calling (916) 364-2437. The suggested donation of $10/adult and $5/child (ages 5-18) covers only part of the cost of providing these programs, so your generosity is greatly appreciated.

On the last three Sundays in April, individuals and families are also welcome to join us for public tours led by docents from Splash. For more information see vernal pool tours. These tours are not designed to accommodate classes or large groups of children.
