Lu-Anne Spencer-Hartle, Critter Keeper

  • Lu-Anne Spencer-Hartle, Critter Keeper

Lu-Anne has always been fascinated with water and the critters that live in it. She became especially fond of salamanders when she was 6 years old and her parents brought home an Eastern Newt to help her recover from having her tonsils removed. She loves all the Splash Critters from the graceful fairy shrimp to the magnificent gopher snake. It would be hard for her to pick a favorite critter, but if she had to it would be the California Tiger Salamander.

Lu-Anne graduated from Cosumnes River College in 1982 and passed her State Board Examination to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician. For 18 years, she worked with dogs, cats, and every other critter she could find. After attending a Splash field trip with her daughter Katie in February 2001, she knew she had to be part of the Splash team. Lu-Anne takes care of all the critters in Critterville and raises fairy shrimp and water fleas to provide to classrooms. She thinks the best part of working with the Splash program is being able to share the rare and wonderful vernal pool ecosystem with Splash kids.

Science can be FUN!

100% of Splash teachers agree that their field trip to the vernal pools was both fun AND educational for their students.

If you're a fourth or fifth grade teacher, we can help make science fun for your students.

Meet Rosie Robles, Splash Club Volunteer

Rosie volunteers to help coordinate and recruit for Splash Club meetings. She spreads the word about upcoming Splash Club meetings to her friends, co-workers, and people at her church. This may not seem like much, but telling your friends about Splash is one of the most important things you can do to help.
